What Cylinders Consist Of

The parts that make up a cylinder are; body, pistons that move and the piston rod that is hooked to the piston. There are also end caps that are connected to the cylinder body barrel by way of threads, keeper rings, tie rods or a weld.  A rod gland is a cylinder rod that goes in and out, that is steered and sustained by a removable bushing.

The “head” is the side thru that the rod sticks out of. The “cap” is the other side that doesn’t have the rod. The inlet and outlet port are in the head and cap.

Hydraulic cylinders transform hydraulic working energy into direct mechanical energy.

Note: industrial cylinders use tie rods.
