These units are made to have controlled power in a small unit. This unit uses a rocker cam and cradle stroking control to use in different displacements. It gives the flow of a bigger pump. It also reduces wear and speed control response. The flow can be controlled by the vane actuator that has a rotary servo that uses a stroke control on it. When you have a double geroter pump that is put on the port block it will let it act by itself and refreshes the flow in the closed loop model.  Your simple pump has a rotary servo input control and compensator override. Other controls may be available.
