To put the shaft seal on, it is a good idea to clean the metal surfaces. The cleanser doesn’t need to leave a film behind. Be sure to put oil and these surfaces before installing. Any time your shaft seal is nicked or marred, you may need to look into replacing it. If the metal is too bent, you most certainly need to replace it. Put grease on your orings when putting them in and that they are put in the rotating seal before you move onto the output drive shaft. The permanent orings go in next in the sub assy. With your retaining ring pliers put in the ring beveled side out. May need to use seal pullers for this job.
