These types of valves are made to get rid of or to give the least amount of shock, surge and overload on hydraulic machinery. Can be used with cylinder that have the same displacement, or motors to give both sides relief upon stoppage. When in normal use the control valve is in neutral in closed position. When it has extra pressure made by the overload, the shock of stress has no way to release relief by means of the primary relief valve. That is where a cushion valve comes in by being between the actuator and control valve by producing the least resistance.

When the motor is in operation, it doesn’t really need a make sure it has an anti cavitation process. The excess oil goes to the other side of the cushion valve.

The DXV model has a ball spring relief valve that give long service. It will let the cushion valve to give relief in one direction while it lets free flow the other direction. The DWV model has a cartridge with hydraulic dampened reliefs. Has a smoother application and lets a lesser differential go on between cracking and full flow pressures.
