To take out the port plate without removing the bearings and seal retainer from the side, put in two brass rods of the same diameter as the porting and by putting in an opposite sides and squeezing together, a grip on the plate can be achieved so the plate can be taken out. Taking out the plate after the shaft and bearing on the opposite end, makes it a whole lot easier.
When you start on the shaft connection end, replace six bolts from the oil seal retainer and take out the retainer. If you wish to use the oil seal again, be careful when you take it out. Next you should have a sleeve made of thick soft shim stock and put it over the shaft covering the key slot. This is done to be careful not damage it when removing it.

If you have minor scratches on the surface of the seal it will cause leakage around the shaft, especially if you use light fluid. Next put a brass rod inside the splined end of the shaft and when you tap a little bit, the shaft and bearing assy can be removed from the port block.
To take out the bearings from the shaft, bend the ear up on the lock washer and take out the nut and washer from the shaft. Then the bearings can be pressed off the shaft.
